How do you foster reading with your kids over the summer? I love the idea of reading every day and reading in a new way. This can be any time you take to explore books, going to the library, looking at words, reading together, and drum roll please...my favorite - storytelling.
I have seen so many wonderful programs through the local library that provide kids with reading passports, stickers, journals, and even reading medals for reaching their goals. Most of these programs and the incentives are geared to reading every day.
Summer reading helps young readers avoid the "summer slump" and opens their minds to new creative possibilities. I have created my own Mrs. P's Summer Reading Challenge to encourage kids to read every day! They can keep track of the books they've read with my Kind-Of-A-Big-Deal Official Mrs. P Reading Log. There's even a place to color. (you can find it in the drop down menu on my activity page.)
And please share your ideas for motivating your kids to read.
