“Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.” ― Hans Christian Andersen
Danish author and poet, Hans Christian Andersen is best known for his fairy tales. They have been translated into more than 125 languages. He also wrote a number of plays, novels and travelogues. He has remained a popular fixture in children’s literature because the themes of his writing provide lessons of resilience in the face of adversity.
He started writing fairy tales as a child, taking stories he had heard and making his own revisions to them. This quote by Hans Christian Andersen is a perfect way to inspire any young writer. “Everything you look at can become a fairy tale and you can get a story from everything you touch.”
Teachers: Use this quote to get your class thinking and ask them to write a story about something they touched.
I have added three new stories from this favorite author to my library. You can enjoy the new playlist that features:
- Thumbelina: A tiny, beautiful young woman, no bigger than a butterfly, travels near and far in search of happiness and a place where she might finally belong.
- The Butterfly: A butterfly searches for the perfect flower to fall in love with and call his bride. He finds many beautiful choices, but can’t make up his mind. Will he ever decide before summer ends and it’s too late?
- The Little Mermaid (4 chapters): A beautiful, young mermaid living in an undersea kingdom is allowed to see the world up above for the first time and falls in love with a handsome prince. The mermaid makes a great sacrifice to live on land – but will the prince even love her back? This is the original story, filled with adventure and romance!
I also have in my storybook library many other stories from this author for you to enjoy. “The Princess and the Pea”, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Little Match Girl”, and “The Brave Tin Solider”. You can find them on my YouTube Channel.
